This has been happening more and more. At first, I ignored it. But, as my understanding of nutritional excellence has been growing, it's happening more frequently, and I think it's time to address it directly. I'm talking about... People asking for “just a few tips” to make eating more raw food or plant-based work for life. For free (of course). Isn't gonna happen, my friend. The only people I give complete, personalized guidance to (and it's by design) are those who actually live it, people who are eating a nutrient-dense, high-plant, low-processed, high-variety diet consistently. This isn't just a matter of principle, either. It’s a matter of protecting long-term health and longevity. Think about it: Even if I was an endlessly patient saint (I'm not) and believed in handing out lifetime strategies for free (I don't) and had the hours to handhold everyone who’s “curious” (I can't), I wouldn't get anything else done. Now, some are more subtle about it. They'll ask something like: “I'm thinking of trying more raw foods, but first, can you tell me exactly what to do to improve my gut microbiome (hoping it also helps with digestion), also get enough protein on this plan, and also what sources, books, or anything else you would recommend as a starting point? I tried to Google it, but it all seems so all over the place...” Amusing, isn't it? (Hey, can't blame them for trying...) So let me be clear about this: If you're “thinking” of eating this way “someday,” don't. You're not ready. It's for people already serious about building their health for life. Who are adding nutrient-dense foods daily, minimizing calorie-dense junk. And are fired-up to protect their future self from heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and premature aging. (In a big way.) If you're a newbie, that's fine, too. If you're ready to take serious action then that's why the best approaches combine the methodology of nutrient-density with the step-by-step layering of habits, so you can build momentum and keep the party going perpetually. It astonishes me how anyone could follow the core principles of eating whole plant and minimally processed foods in abundance, keep daily calorie density low, and still not see their investment repaid each month in health gains. After all, eating healthy has plenty of examples. (Easily modified in most cases). And anyone who truly wants to can find a way to adapt them, including menus, recipes, food-combining approaches, calorie-density charts, this isn't just theory. Plus, there are countless small, easily-implemented tactics, too. I don’t know how it could be any easier. But, it does require thinking... a bit of creativity... and, of course, taking action. If you don't have those attributes, don't start. You'll probably just quit, anyway. (So what's the point?) On the other hand... If you do have those traits, then I believe this lifestyle can help you, and, I believe it can help you fast. There are no guarantees, of course. No “do overs”, either. It's sink or swim in the sea of your own daily choices. And true health-builders wouldn't have it any other way. Here's where to begin: Commit to the approach, nutrient-dense, mostly raw or high-plant, low-processed, variety-rich, every day, without exception. Then watch what happens.
