What never to focus on in nutrition

“THE RESULT!”

The nutrition world’s favorite answer to any question.

How do you know their type 2 diabetes went into remission?

Results.

What shows their blood pressure has improved?

Results.

How can you tell their joint pain has decreased?

Results.

What tells you they have more energy?

Results.

Hey, I have NOTHING against results.

I actually love seeing results and believe they matter (and a lot).

However, there are some things results cannot explain no matter how dramatic the latest before-and-after photo is.

Things that can have a HUGE impact on your health.

What I’m talking about is the “biological” side.

The “invisible” parts of nutrition you can’t see, touch, feel, smell or hear (much less capture in a result).

And you know what?

If you start focusing on these biological changes, you will almost always see several health markers improve with no single result treated as the explanation.

For example, here’s what I mean by the biology:

Your brain’s reward system adapts as highly processed foods are replaced with nutrient-dense whole foods (so the drive for more food gradually decreases)

Your body’s inflammatory state changes (so several areas can improve together instead of one symptom simply being masked)

Your digestive tract receives more fiber, water and phytochemicals (changing gut function, cholesterol metabolism and satiety at the same time)

Your palate resets what it expects food to taste like (until fruit tastes intensely sweet and processed food loses much of its appeal)

Your body spends less energy dealing with the consequences of a poor nutrition (so you feel more energetic even though the food does not “magically” contain more energy)

Etc.

Anyway, I know this is “less dramatic.”

And many of these changes overlap with each other.

But they can make a BIG difference in your health over time.

Focus on them, and you can’t help but understand why the results improve.

You can read it in Appendix 1.
